Fishing is the primary attraction to this area. The Dromore river system stretches from Ballybay to Cootehill in Co. Cavan. The coarse angler will be happy with his catch of Pike, Bream, Tench, Rudd, Roach, and Perch.
On most of the lakes there are fishing platforms which the Northern Fisheries Board have developed. Lough Muchno, in Castleblayney, boasts the best Pike fishing lake in the country, and recently hosted the World Coarse Angling competition. A boat will be available to guests on request, a bait room is also available.
Within 5 minutes of Alices Loft there are two 18 hole pitch and putt courses. For the golfer there are two 18 hole golf courses within a 15 minute drive, Nuremore Golf Club in Carrickmacross, and Rossmore Golf Club, in Monaghan town.
If your desire is to go for a quiet country walk, there are beautiful walks on the quiet country roads in Doohamlet and the locals will make you feel at home.
We are mid way between Inniskeen Quads and the Rally School in Ballinode. Bicycles are available free of charge.
For night life and good food, Castleblayney or Monaghan town have a host of restaurants and pubs with life music and craic. Alternatively, there are two local pubs with a 5 minute drive of the Loft.
